Miami Dolphins Support Cell Phones for Soldiers

Thanks to collection efforts by the Miami Dolphins, more than 400 cellular phones were collected and countless recycle envelopes were distributed to fans at Sun Life Stadium during the Nov. 14th game against the Tennessee Titans. The Bergquist family attended the event. "It was one of the most moving experiences I've ever had," said Bob Bergquist. "The stories we heard really touched our hearts at this event. We all found ourselves tearing up at one point."

BRITTANY BERGQUIST IS AMWAY POSITIVITY FINALIST

Your Positivity Project

AMWAY'S POSITIVITY PROJECT

It was a rainy morning in April 2004. I was 13. The television blared while my family rushed through the morning routine. Little did we know, this was the day that would not only change our lives, but change the lives of thousands of military service men and women all over the world. It was the beginning of "positivity" in my life.

That morning a news broadcast spoke to a need that military families experience year round. The ability to call home while serving our country is a costly challenge that an approximate 65 percent of families either do not have access to or simply can not afford.

Cell Phones for Soldiers was founded by myself and my younger brother, Robbie Bergquist. To date we have collected more than 7.5 million cell phones and provided military personnel with more than 90 million minutes of pre-paid calling cards. The program's main revenue stream comes from the recycling of used cell phones. Currently there are more than 6,000 Cell Phones for Soldiers collection sites across the country. We are not only able to help our military men and women but also keep toxic wastes out of landfills.

Building this program has given me the most positive and motivating experience of my life, and has motivated corporate and individual groups to work for the betterment of our military communities. If awarded the Positivity Project's grand Positivity Prize, the monetary award would continue my mission to help families by providing a cost-free way for military personnel to connect with loved ones. This has become my life's mission and I'm "positive" we will change the lives of thousands more.

Brittany & Robbie Win Microsoft Above and Beyond Youth Leadership Award

Sister and brother Brittany and Robbie Bergquist created their program, Cell Phones for Soldiers, in 2004 when they were 13 and 12 years old, respectively. They learned of a soldier who had run up a cell phone bill of nearly $8,000 calling home to his family. Having a cousin serving in Iraq at the time made them realize the importance of keeping in touch with loved ones.
